REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– A bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or other related fields; or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of application/web/systems development to equal four years.

– Knowledge of programming.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– Ability to work with and build consensus with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds

– Excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of audiences

– Proven ability to meet deadlines using effective organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks and manage projects, and work with minimal supervision

– Demonstration of effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities with keen attention to detail

– Demonstrated ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies (e.g. mobile application design and development)

– Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams

– Knowledge of database (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)

– Experience on web development with programming languages and scripting languages (e.g. PHP, Ruby, Perl, JavaScript)

– Knowledge of source code control (e.g. Git, SVN) and versioning

About the Job

Duties/Responsibilities

 

The candidate is responsible to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff in the UMD Information Technology Systems and Services Department (ITSS) and other campus academic and administrative units on multiple activities relating to application support and development. This position will be responsible for:

 

Production Application Development & Support (70%)

Collaborating with other team members, the candidate will:

  • Provide ongoing maintenance of applications.
  • Troubleshoot production applications and resolve bugs or escalate issues when necessary.
  • Code enhancements to production applications based on end users requirements.
  • Assist with long-term system analysis and preparation of systems design specifications for system integration and upgrades.
  • Test and debug programs, prepare systems test data, and prepare program documentation.

This candidate will function as the primary contact for application service requests.

 

New Application Development (20%)

  • Participate in Agile team processes (feasibility, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, etc).
  • Collaborate with other team members to code new applications or enhancements
  • Test and debug programs, prepare systems test data, and prepare program documentation.

 

Professional Development (10%)

  • Team meetings and activities
  • ITSS departmental events
  • Campus and system wide events, activities, training, and conference
  • Other professional training and conferences
