Position Summary: The Division of Engineering develops custom medical devices for physicians and researchers at Mayo Clinic. Our devices span across the patient care spectrum from bench top research to patient bedside. This includes novel applications of deep brain stimulation, biosensor development, tissue engineering, organ assist devices, and surgical instruments. We are looking for motivated, self-starting undergrad intern who had a passion for learning new and exciting things. The candidate must have completed sophomore level coursework in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program and have:

  • A GPA greater than 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Experience or education in software development using the Microsoft Visual Studio.NET environment, specifically C#.
  • Experience or education in embedded software development (preferably Microchip PIC).
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities: The primary purpose of the Undergraduate Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern and the sponsoring educational facility. (002102-42402)

Qualifications: The candidate must have completed sophomore level coursework in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program and have:

Additional Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will also have education, experience and interest in the following areas:
  • Software design and development, knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • User needs analysis, and system and UI design
  • Developing test plans, test cases, running tests, recording test results, and assisting engineering staff with trouble-shooting and debugging.
  • Learning test equipment used for embedded system development and / or the testing of digital electronic circuits.
  • Performing testing at all levels including: unit, integration, and system, along with black box / white box, and regression.
  • Working in a team environment, including other project team members, users and project requesters.

Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $13.00 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Generally, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
