The Software Development department provides technology solutions for the world’s largest network of test centers, providing testing services for information technology, academic, government and professional clients. Teams are working in a variety of methodologies, but many are aggressively migrating to Agile. Pearson VUE is primarily a Java shop, and uses many of today’s most innovative technologies. This competitively paid Internship opportunity offers a temporary full time position lasting approximately June 1st-August 31st, 2011. The Software Developer Intern is responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and unit testing to produce high-quality code. They are also responsible for maintaining and supporting mission-critical applications as necessary. They will use industry best practices while learning and working in a team of high-performing professionals and are expected to understand and follow process improvement activities. The intern will also learn what working in a highly collaborative development environment entails. They will gain exposure to an industry ‘best practices’ software development shop, and they will have the benefit of being mentored by some of the Twin Cities top technical experts. – Successful applicants must be motivated and proactive along with a minimum of two years (preferably three years) of demonstrated progress towards an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or Engineering degree – Experience with programmatic interaction with relational database systems – Experience in OOAD, iterative development, agile processes, CMMI, business objects, layered design, design patters, SQL, UML, and stored procedures and triggers strongly preferred – Experience in computer-based testing, certification, and licensing industry preferred – Ability to assimilate information, distill knowledge, apply experience, and provide solution alternative and recommendations – Strong time management skills, including the ability to work well under pressure, plan, set priorities, adapt to change, and meet established timelines – Ability to develop effective relationship with internal and external contacts and work well within a team – Must be a self-starter – Must be detail-oriented – Must demonstrate a positive and energetic demeanor – Excellent written and verbal communication skills required – Desire to expand knowledge in many development languages, applications and tools. – Proven ability to think technically and analytically – Creative problem-solving skills
